Paintings on Lace
This series of lace paintings is inspired by the ideals of feminine beauty, the traditional arts of sewing and handwork, and the element of chance that is inherent in working with unconventional materials. I begin with found materials: vintage lace curtains serve as a painting surface, and photographs provide subject matter. I select images that evoke quiet introspection, reinterpreting them to explore the complexity that often underlies a seemingly calm surface. The resulting portraits serve as metaphors for inner and outer life.
