For as long as I can remember, I've loved playing with fabric, and for years I've wondered how I could combine two mediums that I love – paint and fabric. I first experimented with pressing fabric into wet gesso to create subtle textures in my paintings, and eventually decided to try painting directly on gessoed lace. I love the element of chance involved in each piece, not knowing how the empty spaces in the lace will read once the painting is placed on a solid background.
